2024 Medicare Market Update

Many changes between 2023 and 2024 for Medicare Advantage & Prescription Drug Plans

In 2024, in the Denver Metro area, there are more plans! Many of the Companies offering Advantage Plans have created new plans and we have one new company entering our market, Select Health.

This makes choosing a plan even more exciting!

Some factors in choosing a plan are:

HMO plans cover in-network providers only and PPO plans offer coverage for out-of-network providers.Many HMO plans require referrals from a primary care doctor in order to see a specialist. PPO plans do not require referrals.
Companies such as United Healthcare, Humana and Aetna have large doctor networks that expand throughout the country. Companies such as Devoted, Clear Spring and Select Health are building doctor networks and generally offer extra benefits to entice people to join their plan.
Companies with smaller doctor networks offer some great extra benefits to clients to attract business. Devoted Health and Clear Spring have grocery benefits for people with qualifying chronic illnesses.

Prescription Drug Plans

The prescription deductible for brand name and higher tier medications for 2024 is $545. This is an increase of $40. You don’t have to worry about this deductible if you take only generic medications.
For the first time, there is a Prescription Drug Plan for $0 monthly premium! This is an exciting plan to offer Rx benefits for no monthly cost to those who have a Medicare Supplement plan.

Conclusion

Advantage Plans are growing in popularity and numbers. The smaller network plans have richer extra benefits. For stand alone Prescription Drug Plans, Wellcare is the best option for those on generic or no medications.
